The study has the following two findings. Data included online flashcard websites, classroom observations, participants’ online flashcards and learning records, and interview. Four types of data were collected in two freshmen English classes in a university in Taiwan from February to April 2013. This study compared and contrasted 64 Taiwanese college freshmen’s perceptions of and attitudes toward three online vocabulary flashcard websites, Quizlet, Study Stack, and Flashcard Exchange. It, therefore, can be concluded that Quizizz becomes an alternative way of assessing the students online, while at the same time promoting their learning engagement. Besides, this program could enhance students’ learning engagement in terms of cognitive, behavioral, and emotional engagement. They perceived it as a useful program that was easy to use, and they reported the intention to use it in the future in the post-pandemic era. The main findings of the study show that the students demonstrated positive attitudes towards the use of Quizizz during emergency remote teaching. The perceptions of sixty freshmen college students regarding the use of this tool are documented using questionnaires. However, as learners do not always perceive learning tool effectiveness in the same way as educators, this study tries to investigate the perspectives of learners regarding the use of game-based assessment tool, namely Quizizz. Various programs and applications have been developed to assess students online.
